Description

Join Our Innovative Team at Leidos!
At Leidos' High-Fidelity Simulation Portfolio we are pushing the boundaries of realism and accuracy in acoustic software simulation. Our work powers a plethora of the US Navy's trainers and analysis systems. Come join a team whose work defines US Navy simulation capabilities.

Benefits of Joining Our Team
  • We work on one of Leidos' most stable and long-term contracts, spanning over 30 years.
  • New development items can go into production very quickly - your work matters.
  • You can learn from an accomplished physicist with a long history of supporting simulation development.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Straight time compensation for any hours worked over the standard 40-hour workweek.
  • You will support a highly talented group of software developers in their quest to provide scalable, high-fidelity training systems for the U.S. Navy.
You will turn fundamental physics, theoretical research, and empirical results into working physics-based models to extend or improve our simulation software; and develop quantitative metrics for evaluation of physics-based models, both internally developed models and models from external partners. You will be involved in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and correcting physics issues as they arise; and creating written documentation of the physics underlying numerical models. You will be responsible for explaining the mechanics of complex physics models to a team of software engineers; leading a small team of software engineers and physicists through the design, development, and delivery of new models into existing simulation software; and developing and presenting briefings to our team, our partner organizations, our customers, and our sponsors.

Required Education
  • Education: PhD in physics, mathematics, or acoustics, or equivalent experience.
Required Experience
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a U.S. Government granted security clearance. Interim Secret security clearance required to begin employment.
  • Background: Must have 10+ years experience developing physics-based models in one or more of the following areas: acoustics, signal processing, numerical modeling, scientific computing, oceanography. Must have experience creating and extending physics models written in MATLAB
  • Skills: Must have ability to turn theoretical research into working models along with the ability to explain complex models to a team of software developers; ability to organize and lead a small team through the design, development, and delivery of new models into existing simulation software; ability to develop and present briefings to our team, our partner organizations, our customers, and sponsors.
Desired Experience
  • Education: PhD in Physics or Mathematics, advanced math/physics background, continuing education in a technical domain.
  • Skills: High-level understanding of the processing limitations of computer hardware and the ability to form solutions to physics problems in a computationally feasible manner. Experience with digital signal processing techniques (e.g. fast Fourier transforms, digital filter design and its applications to beamforming and convolutions).
  • Tools: Knowledge of high-level programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Fortran, etc.); experience with Atlassian Products, such as Confluence and Jira.
