Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team in Maryland. In this role, you will be responsible for obtaining and entering accurate HR information and payroll data into our payroll system, ensuring compliance with all collective bargaining agreements, and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information. You will have the opportunity to gain full exposure to all aspects of payroll, with support and guidance available as needed.
Responsibilities
- Input accurate and timely HR information and payroll data into the payroll system.
- Analyze and input timecard data into the computerized payroll system.
- Ensure employee wages are paid according to applicable collective bargaining agreements.
- Process payroll changes, including new hires, promotions, terminations, transfers, leaves of absence, garnishments, manual checks, and various payroll deductions.
- Ensure compliance and follow controls to achieve error-free payroll, detecting discrepancies before impacting employees.
- Respond accurately and promptly to management and employee inquiries, consulting with others as needed.
- Track and submit certified reports to ensure compliance for prevailing wage jobs.
- Scan and archive or file payroll-related documents according to company policies.
- Cultivate strong and cooperative relationships with internal and external customers.
- Set up new hires, maintain master files, process terminations, and manage garnishments.
Essential Skills
- 2-5 years of payroll experience.
- Experience with union payrolls and prevailing wage.
- Experience with in-house payroll and reconciliation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Union experience, certified payroll reporting experience, and payroll tax experience are advantageous but not necessary.
Work Environment
This role supports the Mona Electric and Archkey Business units in Maryland. The position requires 100% in-office attendance during training, with a transition to a hybrid schedule thereafter. The team manages payroll for up to 700 employees, with all unions paid weekly. The environment is dynamic, and there is a strong emphasis on growth and adaptability.
