Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager


Job Description

Responsible for managing a team of engineers who specialize in a subdiscipline of mechanical engineering across all projects and programs. This role involves directing the work of team members, supporting project teams, and assisting with the design, analysis, and drafting of systems, structures, and components. The manager will lead the execution of mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles while adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements. This position also involves leading the mechanical design of advanced reactor plants to inform design, manufacturing, construction, and licensing strategy.


Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of engineering team members across multiple projects.
  • Provide organizational support for project teams.
  • Assist with the design, analysis, and drafting of systems, structures, and components.
  • Lead team responsible for performing mechanical design of advanced reactor plants.
  • Manage the execution of mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation of projects.
  • Adjudicate technical differences and foster a healthy engineering dialogue.
  • Lead design cycle sprints and ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering work.
  • Ensure staff meet expectations and promote their professional development.
  • Influence the development of strategy, methodology, and technical tools.
  • Interpret business challenges and recommend best practices.
  • Use judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks.
  • Act in an advisory capacity to define scope and level of effort estimates.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create next-generation nuclear power plants.
  • Perform work in accordance with design control procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with actual hardware and product development lifecycle.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry such as aerospace, medical device, automotive, or defense electronics.
  • Experience with mechanical component-level design of systems like high-pressure vessels and fluid systems.
  • Experience in a lead or managerial capacity overseeing others' work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Typically ten to twenty years of engineering experience.
  • Experience designing and developing mechanical or fluid systems.
  • Hardware ownership including manufacturing and testing oversight.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) software.
  • Experience with industrial applications, especially nuclear technology.
  • Hands-on experience in all phases of design and manufacturing.
