Job Title: Sr Mechanical Engineer


Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to high-profile U.S. Navy weapon systems projects. This role supports the Navy Program Manager responsible for Strategic Systems Planning (SSP) Facilities Acquisition at TRIDENT Submarine Bases, primarily at Kings Bay, Georgia, and Bangor, Washington. The position involves developing mechanical system requirements from concept to operational stage, including estimating HVAC loads and preparing facility requirements documentation.


Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual mechanical system requirements for SSP facilities.
  • Estimate HVAC loads and prepare Bill of Materials and facility requirements documentation.
  • Conduct technical peer reviews of architectural and engineering design submittals.
  • Support the development of Facilities Design Criteria and Facilities Evaluation Testing Criteria.
  • Perform constructability reviews of construction design documentation.
  • Prepare engineering study reports and make recommendations to solve facilities issues.
  • Select effective HVAC system types for facility designs.
  • Apply knowledge of ASHRAE Standards (such as 62.1, 90.1, and 183) in life cycle cost analysis and ventilation calculations.
  • Provide input for MILCON documentation and preliminary construction cost estimates.
  • Offer mechanical system guidance for SSP facility construction documentation.
  • Generate correspondence and prepare presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program.
  • At least eight years of related professional work experience.
  • Experience with mechanical HVAC, plumbing, and gas & fluid distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in HVAC equipment sizing and selection.
  • Ability to perform design requirements and constructability reviews.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Desire to attain a Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building energy modeling software (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP).
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, ASME Codes, and International Mechanical Codes.
  • Experience with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
  • Previous experience in performing design drawings and supporting calculations.
  • Understanding of project managerial relationships and operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with various stakeholders.

Work Environment

The work environment is engineering-heavy with access to a state-of-the-art Digital Engineering lab. The position may require limited travel to off-site locations. The role involves collaboration with government property administrators and architectural/engineering personnel. Dress code is professional attire suitable for meetings and presentations.
