Job Description
Join an exciting new company in its start-up phase and contribute significantly as a Cost Accountant. You will play a key role in managing the cost accounting functions and purchasing operations, working closely with upper management to ensure efficient manufacturing processes and supply chain management.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CFO to create and update manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs) for products, including handling changes in materials, suppliers, costs, and usage rates.
- Analyze and compare standard to actual production, labor, and overhead costs periodically, coordinating changes with the CFO.
- Ensure accurate classification of manufacturing facility expenses under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in coordination with the CFO.
- Organize and participate in physical inventory counts, summarizing results for management.
- Investigate discrepancies in financial records and perform month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations, as directed by the CFO.
- Prepare, distribute, and monitor purchase orders to ensure timely supply and resupply of materials, coordinating with the VP of Manufacturing and Distribution, CFO, and Director of R&D.
- Maintain communication with suppliers to adjust delivery schedules as necessary.
- Authorize vendor payments and maintain purchasing and inventory records.
- Recommend primary supply purchases and alternative supply options to reduce costs, improve quality, or stabilize the supply chain.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, operations, or equivalent experience in an accounting and/or purchasing role (3+ years of experience, ideally on the accounting side).
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills based on data analysis.
- Strong skills in Excel.
- Prior experience with NetSuite ERP.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills with stakeholders.
Work Environment
The position requires working onsite in Ann Arbor from 8am to 5pm, with some flexibility in start times within reason (e.g., 8:30am, 9am). You will work alongside approximately 10 others, providing an opportunity to collaborate closely with the VP and other team members.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
