Job Title: Cost Estimator


Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Cost Estimator to join our team, focusing on estimating costs for various projects within our refurbishing division. This role involves working closely with sales and other departments to deliver accurate estimates and quotes for customers in the steel industry.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare work to be quoted by gathering requests for quotations (RFQ's), customer drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Determine the feasibility of RFQ given current manufacturing equipment and capabilities.
  • Identify raw material costs and operation by operation manufacturing times, including special process costs, to produce parts by studying customer RFQ, prints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Send out RFQ's to raw material and approved special process suppliers to support the cost estimate.
  • Develop estimated manufacturing costs by determining needed labor time requirements, raw material costs, and outside special processing costs, utilizing the company ERP software to generate total part cost and suggested selling prices at target gross margins.
  • Collaborate with skilled machinists on the shop floor to obtain accurate information in support of quoting activity when needed.
  • Communicate internally with Engineering, Purchasing, and externally with Customers and Special Process Suppliers as required.
  • Maintain and update quote cost estimates in the ERP system.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in estimation and cost estimating in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, quoting, and RFQs.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment handling costing and estimating.
  • Experience working with materials and labor.
  • Familiarity with steel processes such as heat treating and pickling is a major plus.
  • Understanding of different types of steels and metals.

Work Environment

This is an office-based role with access to the onsite plant. The environment is very tenured and laid back, with a focus on internal growth. You will be part of a team of two other estimators, reporting to the estimating director/sales director.
