Job Description
This role involves working as a Casting Quality Assurance Engineer at a tier 1 automotive supplier. The primary responsibility is to perform process monitoring and defect improvement through floor management. The position requires spending 70% of the time on the shop floor, troubleshooting machines, improving processes, and assisting in the planning and design of new tools, fixtures, jigs, and mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Collaborate with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Investigate and lead cross-functional teams in the evaluation of scrap/defects in castings and develop corrective measures.
- Utilize computer-assisted design (CAD) software, specifically CATIA.
- Provide feedback to design engineers on customer problems and needs.
- Build gating systems for tooling based on 3D drawings or blueprints.
- Conduct trials, track progress, develop reports, and present findings.
- Recommend design modifications for improvements to current or proposed products.
- Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and the necessity of modification.
- Functionally use hand tools/power tools to build gating, risering, and runner systems.
- Perform personnel functions, including supervision of production workers, technicians, technologists, and other engineers.
- Understand or learn MAGMA Simulation Software.
- Understand ferrous microstructures and layout devices and tools.
- Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
- Perform audits of non-conforming material internally or at customer facilities.
- Support tooling maintenance and evaluation at all facilities.
- Achieve company and department business plans for health and safety goals.
- Experience with casting simulation software.
- Foundry experience.
- Experience modeling in CATIA.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Mechanical inclination, such as experience with car maintenance.
- Familiarity with MAGMA, MAGMASOFT, PPAP, and APQP.
- Experience with PPAP/APQP processes.
- Degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with MAGMA simulation.
- Connections to Trine College or experience with Metal Technologies are advantageous.
You will work on the casting side, where there is a team of engineers. You will frequently collaborate with the manager. The position is on the 1st shift, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with typical departure around 4:00 p.m. Overtime varies by day and department needs. The work environment offers growth opportunities, low insurance premiums, and various company outings. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Coldwater, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $40.87/hr.
