Engine Component Design Release Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Release Engineer to perform engineering activities at both component and system levels. The role involves executing CAD and CAE updates, developing DVP&R for systems and components, and managing supplier interactions. You will create detailed development work plans and maintain engine BOMs, participating in change control and moving parts across various engine platforms.
Responsibilities
- Perform Design & Release engineering activities at component and system level.
- Follow the Design Change Checklist for each part to understand required DV and PV.
- Execute CAD and CAE updates as required.
- Develop DVP&R for the system and components.
- Manage new supplier interaction and management with support from Supplier Quality team.
- Create and maintain detailed development work plans in support of program timing.
- Support and maintain engine BOM.
- Perform release and participate in change control.
- Move multiple parts across various engine platforms to alternative suppliers.
- Focus on powertrain systems, including base engine, exhaust/after-treatment, turbochargers/air induction, thermal systems, and fuel/ignition/evaporative emissions systems.
- Approve drawings, BOMs, part numbers, and configuration content.
- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Evaluate and communicate design change impacts to cost, quality, emissions, and timing.
- Lead validation, APQP & launch support activities.
- Lead engine sub-system related APQP activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, SCAAFS, and control plans.
- Support DV/PV testing: durability, thermal, NVH, performance, and emissions.
- Coordinate prototype, mule, and pre-production engine builds.
- Support PPAP readiness and launch activities.
- Ensure quality, compliance, and perform risk management.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM tools.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering.
- 2-10+ years of experience in design release.
- Knowledge of engine systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with APQP, DFMEA, PPAP, and product launch support.
This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
