Job Description

We are seeking Warranty Engineers to support high time in service quality projects using DFSS and 8D processes. This role is integral to meeting our aggressive timelines concerning warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets. The successful candidate will rapidly work through DFSS phases including Define, Characterize, Optimize, and Verify, and will be responsible for root cause identification and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems focusing on design-related issues, supplier quality, or manufacturing defects.
  • Analyze warranty data and part returns to identify root causes.
  • Identify and verify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
  • Design, execute, or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to identify root cause, replicate quality issues, and validate solutions.
  • Communicate project status and results to management and interface regularly with quality and core engineers.
  • Develop relationships with dealerships and fleets to quickly resolve quality issues related to warranty and repairs.
  • Understand different types of repairs, set up work plans, follow-up, and aggressively move to reduce timelines to fix issues.
  • Lead and attend team meetings.
  • Document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
  • Proactively follow through responsible activities along with required documentation to meet milestones and deliverables.

Essential Skills

  • Warranty and failure mode analysis.
  • Experience in resolving customer concerns and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge and experience in automotive powertrain, with a preference for transmission and driveline.
  • Project management skills.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of automotive experience for Intermediate level OR 5+ years for high level.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience with one of the following components: Transmission, Suspension, or Engine/Powertrain.
  • Experience in quality improvement projects using DFSS, 8D, or other Six Sigma processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for presentations and project tracking.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant field

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $44.50/hr.
