Job Title: Distribution Field Technician


Job Description

This role is a 9-month contract with the possibility of direct hire. The technician will be responsible for field inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment, compiling field data, preparing minor work orders, and generating maintenance reports. The role includes measuring and mapping LVD systems and identifying electrical equipment on poles. Additionally, the technician will perform various field technical services such as system inventories, audits, joint-use management, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering services, and lighting audits.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections of electrical distribution equipment both overhead and underground.
  • Compile field data collection and prepare minor work orders and maintenance reports.
  • Measure and map LVD systems and identify electrical equipment on poles.
  • Perform system inventories, audits, and joint-use management and permitting.
  • Conduct pad-mount inspections and ground-line pole inspections.
  • Perform metering and apparatus services and lighting audits.
  • Utilize laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices for field data collection.
  • Develop working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and electric utility construction standards.
  • Operate equipment such as height sticks and range finders for measurements.
  • Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by project guidelines.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma required, Associate's degree preferred.
  • Experience in field data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in GPS mapping and data collection.
  • Knowledge of NESC codes and utility construction standards.
  • Ability to conduct pole analysis and inspect utility poles.
  • Experience with distribution lines, overhead systems, and pole data collection.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with customers, landowners, and clients.
  • Ability to facilitate power utility asset replacements and upgrades.
  • Skills in joint-use make-ready construction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

The technician is required to report to the Grand Rapids office daily. Upon arrival, they will be assigned to a team member who will drive them to the day's location for data collection. Most work assignments are within an hour's drive from the office. The role involves tackling meaningful projects in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.
