Job Description
This role will play a key part in the continued growth of the Planning team and will work under the direction of a other Planners.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and update a variety of community planning documents, including land use plans, parks and recreation plans, zoning updates, and downtown development initiatives.
- Support and help develop public engagement strategies throughout all phases of Master Plan development.
- Conduct research and contribute to written reports and technical documentation.
- Serve as a point of contact for applicants and public officials on a limited portfolio of clients and projects, including planning, zoning, and compliance-related matters.
- Build and maintain client relationships, including support with reporting and billing activities.
- Compile, analyze, and summarize data, presenting findings clearly and effectively.
- Develop maps using ArcGIS and prepare statistical tabulations, charts, graphs, and other visual materials.
- Collect and analyze economic, social, and physical data that influence land use and development decisions.
- Participate in and facilitate planning workshops, public engagement sessions, and public presentations, both in person and virtually.
- Review proposed development projects for compliance with ordinances, draft ordinance amendments, respond to resident and developer inquiries, and support day-to-day planning and zoning activities.
- Attend planning commission, zoning board of appeals, and elected official meetings as needed.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to support the professional development of planning staff.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including municipal engineers, landscape architects, administrative staff, and other design professionals.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional planning experience.
- AICP certification required, or the ability to obtain certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS.
- Familiarity with tools such as Revit, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite, and other software commonly used in planning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in community planning for cities, townships, and villages preferred.
- Strong understanding of municipal planning principles and practices, with experience conducting research and producing high-quality technical writing to meet client needs.
- Experience with master planning, zoning, and downtown planning is a plus.
- Availability to attend evening meetings as needed

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $73000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
