Job Description
This role focuses on performing preventive and corrective maintenance on plastic injection molding and assembly equipment during 3rd shift. The Maintenance Technician II works independently to complete scheduled preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and support more complex repairs and installations while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Responsibilities
- Work independently on 3rd shift to complete scheduled preventive maintenance for the month and perform required maintenance on production equipment.
- Receive work orders, evaluate the issues, and carry out the necessary repairs to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
- Operate fork trucks, lifts, and cranes safely to move equipment and components as needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Use the preventive maintenance (PM) software program to look up parts, complete work orders, record time, and open new work orders for repairs when required.
- Use a digital multimeter to check voltage and current during preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting activities.
- Consult equipment manuals to identify required parts and follow procedures for preventive maintenance tasks.
- Use equipment manuals and prints to troubleshoot basic electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic circuits.
- Assist Maintenance Technician II-level colleagues and higher-level technicians with repairs, troubleshooting, and installation of equipment.
- Make sound decisions based on available information, equipment error codes, and observed conditions.
- Measure screws and barrels accurately to support equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Apply electrical and hydraulic formulas during troubleshooting and repair work on equipment.
- Check inputs and outputs on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to support diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Perform wiring on equipment according to electrical prints and provided instructions.
- Fabricate and assemble hydraulic hoses as needed for equipment maintenance.
- Maintain a higher-level understanding of injection molding machines, vacuum metalizing systems, and assembly equipment than Maintenance Technician I roles.
- Keep work areas clean and free of grease and oil to promote safety and efficiency.
- Maintain 5S standards by organizing, cleaning, and sustaining an orderly work environment.
- Follow all documented safety requirements and procedures in accordance with company standards.
- Adhere to TS-related requirements and standards as they apply to maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with team members and management to support and achieve company goals.
- Perform all job duties required of a Maintenance Technician I when needed.
- Perform other related duties as directed by supervision.
- At least three years of related industrial repair and maintenance experience.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production equipment.
- Ability to operate fork trucks, lifts, and cranes safely and effectively.
- Proficiency using a digital multimeter to measure voltage and current for diagnostics and repair.
- Ability to read and use equipment manuals and prints for troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
- Capability to troubleshoot simple electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic circuits using manuals and prints.
- Ability to measure screws and barrels accurately using appropriate tools.
- Ability to apply electrical and hydraulic formulas during troubleshooting and repair tasks.
- Ability to check PLC inputs and outputs to support troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform wiring on equipment according to electrical prints and directions.
- Ability to fabricate and assemble hydraulic hoses correctly.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software such as Excel and Word.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles.
- Capability to perform all job duties associated with a Maintenance Technician I.
- Experience maintaining and repairing plastic injection molding machines such as Nissei, Engel, and Van Dorn.
- Experience with vacuum metalizing equipment and assembly machinery.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance software systems for managing work orders, parts, and time entry.
- Comfort working on 3rd shift with initial training on 1st shift.
- Strong decision-making skills based on equipment error messages, performance data, and observed conditions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance team members and management to support production goals.
- Understanding of TS-related requirements and adherence to documented standards and procedures.

Work Environment
The role is based in a plastic injection molding and assembly facility that operates multiple machines, including Nissei, Engel, and Van Dorn equipment. The position primarily works on 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. with a half-hour unpaid lunch, following an initial training period on 1st shift from 5:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute meal break. The work involves regular interaction with production machinery, forklifts, lifts, and cranes in an industrial setting where safety, cleanliness, and adherence to 5S principles are essential. Team members use digital multimeters, hand tools, hydraulic hose equipment, computers with Microsoft software, and a preventive maintenance software system to perform their duties. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
