Job Description
The BOM Engineer / Analyst plays a critical role at the intersection of engineering and manufacturing by creating, maintaining, and improving bills of materials (BOMs) and related master data. This position focuses on processing engineering change orders, translating engineering documentation into accurate product structures within PLM and ERP systems, and ensuring product data quality to support efficient manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain material masters and bills of materials based on engineering drawings and product documentation.
- Process and implement engineering change orders (ECOs) within the PLM system (Teamcenter) and ensure all changes are accurately reflected in the ERP system.
- Review engineering and complex manufacturing drawings, including drawing revisions from R&D, and document all required changes in Teamcenter.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of product data in bills of materials and material masters.
- Translate engineering change orders from the current database into structured workflows and BOMs suitable for upload into the ERP system for manufacturing use.
- Collaborate with engineering, R&D, and manufacturing teams to clarify product data requirements and resolve discrepancies in drawings or documentation.
- Support master data governance by following established processes and standards for data creation, modification, and maintenance.
- Use Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools to analyze, validate, and report on product and master data.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of BOM, ECO, and master data management processes to enhance data quality and operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Design, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and change management processes.
- Hands-on experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, specifically Teamcenter.
- Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering and complex manufacturing drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Experience with master data and data management in an engineering or manufacturing context.
- Attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, R&D, and manufacturing.
- Background or coursework related to bills of materials (BOM) and material master data.
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP platforms.
- Familiarity with PLM concepts and best practices beyond Teamcenter.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple change orders and data tasks simultaneously.
- Interest in developing a career in engineering data management, master data, or product lifecycle management.
- Willingness to take advantage of ongoing training and professional development opportunities, including online learning platforms such as Udemy.
The role operates within a smaller, close-knit master data group that includes consultants and direct analysts, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. The position follows a hybrid on-site schedule, with required on-site presence typically on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Standard working hours are approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The team leverages PLM tools such as Teamcenter, ERP systems (including SAP or similar), and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, to manage and maintain product and master data. The environment supports flexibility, offers opportunities to gain valuable real-world engineering experience, and provides access to online training resources such as Udemy after a period of employment, enabling continued professional growth.
