Job Overview

As a Lead in our Protection & Control Engineering Services Team, you will be responsible for creating substation drawing packages including one-line drawings, three-line drawings, DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, component layouts, electrical plans, and detailed assembly drawings using AutoCAD® and MicroStation. Our P&C Engineering Services teams also perform fault analysis and coordination studies, grounding design and analysis, along with developing settings for most station relays.

A Day In The Life
  • Interpret customer specifications and provide a design which meets all requirements
  • Perform transmission and distribution protection and control relay setting calculations and coordination studies including breakers, transformers, bus protection, capacitor bank, and reactor settings
  • Perform QC checks of complete drawing and relay setting packages
  • Perform Substation RTU/SCADA RPA's & Programming
  • Create project transmission and distribution specific protection and control schematic diagrams for large scale projects
  • Update/revise existing customer substation legacy schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Modify/Create transmission and distribution protection and control relay 1-Line Drawings
  • Develop complete and detailed customer site visits and technical scopes for projects which meet customer requirements
  • Customer visits (travel approximately 10% of the time)
  • Perform all Project Management activities and lead large projects without supervision.
  • Develop training and provide technical mentoring to technicians, designers, and engineers
  • Recognize a need for, and champion process improvements
What will help you thrive in this role?
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; P.E. license or P.E. track preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of experience with at least five years of T&D Protection and Control related experience in both relay settings and P&C drawing package creation
  • Thorough understanding of the function, operation and application of T&D relay protection functions
  • Thorough understanding of the operation and function of all substation equipment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the specifications, structure, programming and configuration of the following control devices is also beneficial:
    • Microprocessor Based Protection and Control Relays
    • RS-232/RS485/Fiber optic/Ethernet Communication
    • IEC-61850 and DNP protocols
    • RTU/SCADA/HMI Equipment
    • SCADA Systems
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of transmission and distribution protection and control schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to perform relay setting calculations and coordination studies
  • Proven analytical & problem-solving skills
