Job Description
The finishing carpenter will travel between large commercial projects to perform high-quality interior finishing work, including steel stud framing, trim installation, acoustical ceilings, and the installation of specialized wood products such as cabinets, doors, windows, and decorative trim. This role requires a strong background in finish carpentry and metal stud framing, with the ability to read blueprints, use power tools safely, and deliver precise, detail-oriented work in a commercial construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Travel between multiple commercial job sites to support various interior finishing and framing needs.
- Perform steel stud framing in commercial buildings according to project specifications and blueprints.
- Install interior trim, including baseboards, crown molding, and other decorative finishes with a high level of precision.
- Install specialized wood products such as cabinets, doors, windows, and related hardware.
- Construct, assemble, and install cabinetry and other woodwork using appropriate carpentry techniques.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project plans to determine measurements, materials, and installation methods.
- Measure, cut, and fit materials accurately using tape measures, saws, and other hand and power tools.
- Install acoustical ceilings and interior finishing elements as required by the project scope.
- Use power tools and woodworking equipment safely and efficiently to complete tasks on schedule.
- Work on large commercial construction projects and coordinate tasks with other trades on site.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with site safety requirements.
- Adhere to project timelines by working standard hours and occasional Saturdays to meet deadlines.
- Wear required safety equipment, including a Type 2 hard hat where specified, and follow all site-specific safety protocols.
- At least 3+ years of hands-on finish carpentry experience.
- Proven experience with metal stud framing in a construction environment.
- Strong finish carpentry skills, including trim work, baseboards, and crown molding installation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Proficiency with commercial construction practices and standards.
- Skilled in the installation of cabinets, doors, windows, and other wood products.
- Ability to accurately measure and lay out work using a tape measure and related tools.
- Competent in the safe use of power tools and woodworking equipment.
- Reliable work history with consistent job tenure.
- Capability to work full-time hours, including overtime as needed, in a commercial construction setting.
- Commercial construction experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with acoustical ceiling installation is beneficial.
- background in woodworking and cabinetry enhances success in this role.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, and in active construction environments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality finishes.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination with site crews and other trades.
- Flexibility to work at various job locations within approximately one hour of the greater Kalamazoo area.

Work Environment
This role is based on commercial construction sites, working primarily Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays as project needs require. Typical workweeks range from 40 to 50 hours. The position follows a first-shift schedule, generally starting between 6:00–7:00 a.m. and finishing between 3:00–4:00 p.m., depending on the job site. Current and upcoming projects are located at various commercial locations within roughly an hour of downtown Kalamazoo, including venues such as country clubs, mixed-use developments, and senior living complexes. The work takes place in active construction environments, requiring the consistent use of standard personal protective equipment, including a Type 2 hard hat where mandated. You will regularly use a variety of hand and power tools, work around other trades, and operate in settings that may include partially finished interiors, elevated work areas, and typical construction site conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
