Job Description
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to support a high-volume automotive program currently in production for a major OEM. This role is hands-on and plant-facing, with a strong focus on production quality, inspection oversight, and customer satisfaction. The Quality Engineer will serve as a key link between manufacturing, quality inspectors, and the customer's Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), ensuring product quality, compliance, and smooth day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality engineering support for an active production program, ensuring products meet internal and OEM quality requirements.
- Oversee and support production quality activities, including incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
- Ensure inspection plans and quality checks are being executed correctly by quality inspectors and operators.
- Act as the primary quality contact for the customer's Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), addressing concerns, questions, and quality issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) related to internal issues, customer complaints, and nonconformances.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, with strong emphasis on GD&T.
- Support and maintain PPAP documentation, control plans, PFMEAs, and work instructions as needed for production changes or quality issues.
- Monitor production metrics and quality performance, identifying trends and driving continuous improvement.
- Participate in containment activities, audits, and customer visits as required.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to resolve quality issues without disrupting production.

- Automotive manufacturing experience, preferably in a Tier 1 environment
- Experience supporting production quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience interfacing with OEM customers or customer SQEs
- Solid understanding of automotive quality tools and standards (PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA, IATF)
- Strong communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Quality, or related discipline required)
- Prior experience supporting programs in full-rate production
- Familiarity with OEM-specific quality requirements
- Experience with launch-to-production transitions
- Ability to manage multiple quality issues simultaneously while maintaining a calm, solutions-oriented approach
The role requires a hands-on presence in the plant, overseeing inspections and working directly with inspectors and operators. The work environment is fast-paced and involves interfacing with OEM customers or customer SQEs. The position demands a strong focus on quality standards while maintaining production efficiency.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Clemens, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $55.00/hr.
