Job Description

Join our dynamic team at the Pontiac Propulsion Labs as an Engine Development Validation Technician. You'll collaborate closely with engineers to advance engine calibration development, conduct mechanical experiments, and fabricate components. Your work will contribute to optimizing engine performance and ensuring engines reach their failure state for validation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers to perform mechanical swapping of engine components for testing various combinations to achieve optimal performance.
  • Conduct manual testing on a dyno and work with emissions equipment in a laboratory setting.
  • Tune and calibrate engines using software such as HP Tuners or standalone systems.
  • Manipulate fuel tables, air intake, spark, and exhaust to find optimum performance on test engines.
  • Engage in work at the component level, including modifications and fabrications of oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, spark plugs, and more.
  • Assemble, modify, and fabricate components for testing on engines and test stands/dynos.
  • Perform TIG welding on parts and components.

Essential Skills

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years of experience with engine dynamometers and hands-on engine work including rebuilds, tear downs, assembly, and repair.
  • Proficiency in prototype development, hand tool usage, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with tuning and calibrating engine variables using HP Tuners, Mega squirt, or other standalone software.
  • Experience modifying or building aftermarket vehicles.
  • Lab experience focusing on testing and development, dyno equipment, and emissions testing.
  • Calibration experience from personal projects or professional settings such as race teams or shops.

Work Environment

This position operates on the 2nd shift, from 2-3 pm to 10:30-11:30 pm, Monday through Friday. You will work in a very clean test lab and garage environment at the engineering headquarters. The facility is air-conditioned and includes a full-service cafeteria operating from 6 am to 2:30 pm. While GM will provide a toolbox and specialty tools, you are required to bring your own basic tools. The facility is large with ample parking, though you might have to walk up to 1/4 mile to reach the building.

Compensation:$35
