Job Title: Mechanical Designer


Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer with expertise in weld gun design and coordination for Body-in-White (BIW) tooling fixtures. This role involves collaborating with project engineers to track and report on weld gun development, applying fastening technologies, and ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.


Responsibilities

  • Track and report weld gun development with project engineers.
  • Apply fastening technologies, including welding, riveting, screwing, adhesives, and sealers.
  • Select and size weld guns based on metal stack-ups and pressures.
  • Coordinate with mechanical design and robot simulation teams.
  • Design and develop weld guns using CAD tools.
  • Analyze data and specifications to assess design feasibility.
  • Maintain spreadsheets/matrices for gun numbers, spot numbers, stack-ups, and timelines.
  • Attend customer meetings and coordinate with suppliers.
  • Package weld guns for approval and ensure timely delivery.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of experience in weld gun design and coordination.
  • Proficiency in CAD (NX) with knowledge of North American automotive standards and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of BIW tooling systems and geometry setting.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams.
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Technology or equivalent experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of mechanical design sequences and controls documentation.
  • Knowledge of design techniques and production documentation.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical errors.
  • Experience with NAAMS standards and CAD check options.
  • Vendor coordination and integration of purchased components.
  • Ability to travel domestically (5–20%) and internationally as needed.
