Job Title: Industrial Engineer
Job Description
The Industrial Engineer will be responsible for analyzing the operating environment and identifying process inefficiencies and wastes of time, money, materials, and energy. They will conduct time and motion studies to conceptualize improvements and assist in developing business cases for updates and changes. This role will also involve developing and evaluating pilot programs, simulations, and prototypes, implementing new and enhanced processes and tools as needed, and designing equipment and workspace layouts for maximum efficiency. The engineer will analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow for both new and existing processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop labor standards by analyzing work samples and methods while measuring work performance.
- Improve labor utilization by studying work methods, testing modifications, designing new methods, and recommending job restructuring.
- Enhance workflow by studying process flow charts, recommending workflow modifications, developing new procedures, and suggesting equipment changes.
- Reduce waste by studying methods, equipment, and operator techniques, recommending changes, and identifying and analyzing waste.
- Implement work improvement programs by collaborating closely with management and engineering staff.
- Prepare work-analysis information and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Complete work improvement projects by training and guiding operators and supervisors.
- Maintain operations guidelines by writing and updating policies, procedures, and methods.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering.
- Experience developing and implementing methods to perform operations (man-machine interface).
- Proficiency in industrial engineering concepts and applications, including rates, flow, cycle times, bottlenecks, ergonomics, capacity, utilization, and budgets.
- Experience working as an industrial engineer within high volume manufacturing for over 3 years.
- AutoCAD experience for plant layout and labor standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Labor standards experience.
- Automotive experience.
Work Environment
The work environment consists of reporting within a team of five other engineers. The hours are typically from 7am to 4pm, with a usual workload of 45 hours, and occasionally extending to 50 during busy periods. The role requires 70%-80% of time to be spent on the manufacturing floor. The facility manufactures front and rear axles for heavy-duty trucks and pickups. This position offers 10 days of PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months of employment.
