The CAS Modeler / Digital Sculptor develops aesthetic surfaces that align with design intent, engineering requirements, and program timelines, while supporting the integration of new technologies and efficient workflows within a creative studio environment.
Responsibilities
- Create new three-dimensional models and enhance existing models using AliasStudio and other digital modeling tools.
- Develop and refine aesthetic surfaces for digital models throughout the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
- Support surface releases that meet design approval, production engineering criteria, and data release requirements.
- Understand and follow program timelines, ensuring all model quality requirements are met at each project milestone.
- Adhere to established Global Design processes and best practices, and contribute to the development and improvement of these standards.
- Collaborate frequently with studio personnel to develop creative and practical solutions to engineering and design challenges.
- Apply knowledge of current trends in design, materials, technology, production methods, and product engineering processes to improve modeling outcomes.
- Attend program-related meetings as required to stay aligned with project objectives, timing, and cross-functional expectations.
- Perform accurate assessments of digital surface quality, identifying and resolving issues to ensure high standards of fit, finish, and aesthetics.
- Follow corporate data management processes using tools such as TeamCenter and SharePoint to organize, store, and share model data.
- Use corporate communication systems, including timekeeping and email, to report progress, document work, and coordinate with stakeholders.
- Support sculpting leadership by sharing knowledge and mentoring others in efficient modeling methods, new technologies, and workflow optimization.
- Work both collaboratively with other modelers and independently, demonstrating creativity, precision, and accountability in all modeling tasks.
- Proven experience in digital or clay sculpting for automotive or related product design applications.
- Proficiency with AliasStudio or comparable digital modeling software for creating and refining complex surfaces.
- Ability to develop high-quality aesthetic surfaces that align with design intent and engineering constraints throughout the GVDP.
- Strong capability to evaluate digital surface quality and resolve surface issues to meet stringent visual and technical standards.
- Familiarity with corporate data management tools such as TeamCenter and SharePoint, or similar systems, for managing and sharing design data.
- Ability to interpret and meet program timelines and model quality requirements across multiple project stages.
- Strong problem-solving skills for addressing design and engineering challenges in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of current trends in design, materials, technology, production methods, and product engineering processes.
- Effective communication skills for participating in program meetings, coordinating with stakeholders, and documenting work.
- Capacity to work creatively and precisely both as part of a team and independently within a design studio environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Design or Industrial Design preferred but not required.
- Experience as a digital sculptor, clay sculptor, or modeler within automotive or mobility-related projects.
- Background in CAS (Computer Aided Surfacing) modeling for exterior and interior vehicle components.
- Experience working within structured design and development processes such as the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
- Exposure to or experience with integrating new technologies and tools into existing modeling workflows.
- Ability to mentor or support colleagues by sharing best practices in digital and clay sculpting.
- Attention to detail and a strong aesthetic sense for form, proportion, and surface quality.
The role is based in a creative studio environment focused on automotive and mobility design. You will work closely with designers, engineers, and other modelers, using digital tools such as AliasStudio and corporate systems like TeamCenter and SharePoint to develop and manage high-quality models. The setting emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and adherence to structured development processes, while encouraging the exploration of new technologies and methods to enhance modeling efficiency and quality.
