Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

A growing systems integration organization is seeking a Controls Engineer to support automation, controls, and service functions within material handling and industrial environments.

This role involves hands-on technical work, independent problem-solving, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs and HMIs to ensure proper system operation.
  • Diagnose equipment issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Modify and develop electrical schematics using standard drafting and electrical practices.
  • Support equipment uptime by coordinating with maintenance teams and service providers.
  • Assist and oversee third-party contractors as needed.
  • Interface with customers to troubleshoot automation systems and provide technical guidance or training.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports.
  • Communicate effectively with technical teams and leadership.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Travel up to 33% of the time.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working within Material Handling Equipment.
  • Ability to develop and program PLC/HMI, particularly Allen-Bradley.
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, Automation, and Electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Robotics, Controls engineering, and AutoCAD.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities.

Work Environment

Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week when not traveling.

During travel, expect to leave on a Sunday and return the following Saturday, with a workweek of 50 hours.

The role requires working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wyoming, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
