Job Description
The Shipping Clerk prepares and processes outgoing shipments using UPS, FedEx, and LTL freight services while accurately updating inventory in the computer system. This role works in a small warehouse shipping area, operates forklifts, coordinates with trucks and shipping brokers for pickups, and supports overall shipping operations through cross-training on multiple shipping methods.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and package products for shipment using UPS, FedEx, and LTL (freight) carriers.
- Pull and stage parts for orders and verify accuracy against shipping documents.
- Update inventory and shipment details in the computer system as orders are processed.
- Communicate with trucking companies and shipping brokers to schedule and coordinate pickups.
- Operate sit-down and/or stand-up forklifts to move, load, and unload materials safely.
- Perform order picking, packing, and material handling tasks in the warehouse.
- Ensure all shipments meet quality, labeling, and documentation requirements before leaving the facility.
- Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and safe shipping and warehouse area.
- Respond quickly to incoming orders and prioritize shipments based on deadlines and customer needs.
- Participate in cross-training across all shipping processes (UPS, FedEx, and LTL) to provide flexible coverage.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding shipment status, issues, or delays.
- Follow all company procedures and safety guidelines while handling equipment and materials.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of experience in shipping and warehouse operations, including UPS or FedEx or freight.
- 1+ year of sit-down or stand-up forklift operating experience (experience with both is preferred).
- 1+ year of warehouse picking and packing experience.
- Hands-on experience preparing shipments with UPS and/or FedEx and/or LTL freight carriers.
- Basic computer aptitude with the ability to update inventory and shipment information in a computer system.
- Experience using or exposure to SAP or similar warehouse or inventory software.
- Experience working with shipping brokers to coordinate freight pickups.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with drivers, brokers, and internal team members.
- Consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to learn new processes quickly and apply training on the job.
- Capability to perform physical warehouse tasks, including material handling and order picking.

Work Environment
The role is based in a fairly laid-back, small shipping area within a larger shop environment, where work pace can vary from slower periods to times when urgent orders must be processed quickly. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. The environment involves typical warehouse and shipping activities, including forklift operation, material handling, and coordination with carriers and brokers. The dress code requires a T-shirt, long pants, and steel-toe boots to support safety and comfort in the shop and shipping area.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of BLAINE, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
