Animal Surgical Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals, such as feeding, caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment, and maintaining inventory and animal identification records.
  • Perform cleaning and sanitation of the animal facility and equipment.
  • Ensure biosafety and biosecurity of the animals.
  • Partner with preclinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-operative care, and monitoring of animal studies.
  • Provide technical support in areas such as production operations, maintenance, safety testing, process improvement, or product development.
  • Use schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment, or systems.
  • Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulae and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations.
  • Suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.
  • Work as a seasoned individual contributor under limited supervision, providing assistance and training to lower-level employees.
  • Run minor projects, including performing tests, interpreting data, and developing reports.
  • Perform technical activities requiring considerable judgment and may have ownership of minor projects.
  • Independently propose solutions to problems for supervisor review.
  • Communicate typically with internal contacts to obtain and provide technical information on matters of moderate importance.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within the job area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of surgical experience
  • Certified Vet Tech or research experience in a surgery tech capacity
  • 1+ years of previous anesthesia experience
