Job Title: Surgical Technician
Job Description
This position will specifically support the surgical team, playing a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of animal research and development studies.
Responsibilities
- Care for animals used in research and development studies.
- Perform duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals, including feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, and holding animals for treatment.
- Maintain inventory and animal identification records.
- Perform cleaning and sanitation of animal facility and equipment.
- Ensure biosafety and biosecurity of the animals.
- Partner with preclinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-operative care, and monitoring of animal studies.
- Provide technical support in areas such as production operations, maintenance, safety testing, process improvement, or product development.
- Use schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment, or systems.
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data using established formulae and procedures, and perform detailed mathematical calculations.
- Suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes at higher levels.
- Act as a seasoned individual contributor working under limited supervision, providing assistance and training to lower-level employees.
- Run minor projects including performing tests, interpreting data, and developing reports.
- Perform technical activities requiring considerable judgment and may have ownership of minor projects.
- Work consists of technical tasks that are typically not routine.
- Independently propose solutions to problems for supervisor review.
- Communicate typically with internal contacts.
- Obtain and provide technical information on matters of moderate importance to the job area.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within the job area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of surgical experience
- Certified Veterinary Technician OR research experience in a surgical tech capacity

- Positive attitude verified by references
Work Environment
This role requires comfort working within the pre-clinical industry, supporting both animal surgeries (75%) and cadaver studies (25%). The typical start times are 6am, 7am, or 8am for an 8-hour shift, with some weekend work and overtime available at time and a half.
