Job Title: Scientist
Position Overview
We are seeking a Scientist to support research and development efforts, medical device manufacturing, and regulatory submissions within a shared services laboratory. This role plays a key part in material assessments, study design, and cross‑functional collaboration. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on laboratory experience, strong technical expertise, and a proactive mindset for solving complex materials challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands‑on laboratory testing and analysis to evaluate materials used in medical device applications.
- Conduct advanced material characterization using techniques such as metallography, SEM, EDS, microhardness testing, optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and FTIR.
- Partner closely with scientists, engineers, and other cross‑functional stakeholders to develop and execute robust test plans that meet project and regulatory needs.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, drawing clear and accurate technical conclusions.
- Document laboratory activities, experimental methods, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks within a regulated environment.
- Prepare clear, detailed technical reports to communicate findings to project teams and leadership.
- Contribute effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative team setting while managing multiple priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Strong foundation in chemistry, materials science, or materials engineering.
- Hands‑on experience with material characterization techniques such as metallography, FTIR, SEM, EDS, microhardness testing, and Raman spectroscopy.
- Working knowledge of medical devices and biocompatibility considerations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of industry experience focused on materials characterization.
- Demonstrated strong technical writing skills, with the ability to clearly document and communicate results.
- At least 6 months of experience documenting laboratory work, ideally in a GMP or regulated environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the medical device industry.
- Familiarity with biomaterials such as nitinol, titanium, stainless steel, carbon‑based materials, or polyurethanes.
- Understanding of how materials interact with biological systems and implications for device performance and safety.
Work Environment
This role is based in a laboratory setting and requires regular hands‑on experimental work. The Scientist will operate in a collaborative, fast‑moving environment that values clear communication, teamwork, and attention to detail. All documentation and reporting will be completed using electronic systems in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
