Job Title: Construction Technician
Pay Rate: $20–$25 per hour, based on experience
Job Summary
The Construction Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of repair, maintenance, and general labor tasks on modular buildings and mobile office trailers in a shop and yard environment. This hands-on role includes demolition, cleaning, material handling, and skilled trade work such as framing, finish carpentry, light electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, HVAC checks, and running gear repairs. The technician ensures each unit is safe, fully functional, and ready for delivery while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance on mobile office trailers and modular buildings, including framing, finish carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, running gear, and related building components.
- Complete general labor tasks such as demolition, cleaning, and loading/unloading materials in both shop and yard settings.
- Conduct check-in and check-out inspections of off-rented units to assess damage, determine repair scope, and support customer invoicing.
- Create or update basic floor plan drawings as needed to support repairs, modifications, and customer requests.
- Perform customer-requested modifications and customizations to modular units and trailers.
- Ensure all units are cleaned, repaired, and prepared for scheduled delivery dates while meeting quality and safety standards.
- Perform basic HVAC system checks and maintenance in accordance with company guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of tools, equipment, parts, and value-added products required to complete service work.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork and documentation for deliveries, pickups, inspections, and service calls.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service, explaining repairs and services clearly in person or over the phone.
- Support yard operations by completing additional service-related tasks as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
- Work independently in a fast-paced environment while following all safety procedures and quality expectations.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- At least one year of professional experience using a computer or smartphone.
- Basic carpentry knowledge with hands-on experience.
- Ability to perform general labor tasks, including demolition, cleaning, and material handling.
- Ability to perform basic repairs involving electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, and related trades.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Clear communication skills for working with customers and team members in person and over the phone.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with electrical or plumbing work.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience performing basic HVAC maintenance.
- Previous experience in construction, modular buildings, or mobile office trailers.
- Ability to read or create basic floor plan drawings.

Work Environment
This position operates in both indoor and outdoor, construction-focused environments involving mobile office trailers and modular buildings. Work is split between a shop setting and an active yard, performing repairs, remodeling, demolition, cleaning, and material handling. The role follows a first-shift schedule, typically 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Employees use standard construction tools and equipment and perform physically demanding tasks, sometimes in varying outdoor weather conditions, with a strong emphasis on safety, organization, and teamwork.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shakopee, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
