Job Title: Welder

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled welder to join our team, specializing in fluxcore MIG welding for the fabrication of steel bridges up to 1/2" thick. The role involves working off blueprints to perform full layouts and fabrication associated with those layouts. Candidates will operate various equipment, including overhead & jib cranes, band saws, drill presses, stud welders, and grinders. This position requires mobility within the shop to fabricate and weld bridges, often involving crawling under materials and welding in awkward positions. There is potential for advancement to a lead welder position, so previous lead experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fluxcore MIG welding on steel bridge components up to 1/2" thick.
  • Work from blueprints to execute full layout and fabrication tasks.
  • Operate overhead & jib cranes and other fabrication equipment such as band saws, drill presses, stud welders, and grinders.
  • Move around the shop to facilitate bridge fabrication and welding.
  • Crawl under materials and weld in various positions as required.
  • Potentially advance to a lead welder role, requiring previous leadership experience.

Essential Skills

  • Strong structural welding experience.
  • Proficiency in MIG and fluxcore welding techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and determine tasks without direct supervision.
  • Physical ability to consistently lift 50 lbs, kneel, stoop, and crawl.
  • Capability to pass 3G vertical up weld test on 7/8 plate with full penetration weld passed by X-ray inspection.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in blueprint reading.
  • Previous experience with fluxcore welding on structural steel.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks.
  • Capability to pass 3F and 4F weld tests within the first few days.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a small-sized structural fabrication shop that lacks air conditioning and can become messy. The available shifts are 2nd Shift from 4pm to 2:30am and 1st Shift from 5:30am to 4:00pm, with two 15-minute breaks and a half-hour unpaid lunch.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shakopee, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
