Job Title: Field Technician

Job Description

We are looking for an Aerial GIS Technician to support OSP aerial design and services. This position involves collecting field data related to poles and their locations for use in Aerial Design. The technician will be responsible for gathering data and capturing images of existing poles, equipment in use, and identifying cable types and their owners. Additionally, the role includes collecting permitting information from cities, counties, and other agencies. The technician will participate in site walks and compile materials summaries, and may assist with OSP design work as needed. Training on equipment, documentation, and processes will be provided.



Responsibilities

  • Collect field data of poles and their locations for Aerial Design.
  • Capture images and document existing poles, equipment, and cable types.
  • Gather permitting information from relevant agencies.
  • Participate in site walks and prepare materials summaries.
  • Assist with OSP design work as required.


Essential Skills

  • 0-1 years of experience in OSP, Autocad, Construction, OSP aerial support/field work.
  • 1+ years of field work experience (e.g., landscape, construction, land surveying, utility locating).
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in GIS and CAD.


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Telecom experience is preferred but not required.
  • Previous travel experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to physically handle power poles, measure equipment, and navigate rough terrain.


Work Environment

The field technician will work primarily outdoors, comfortable in diverse weather conditions. The role involves traveling from Monday to Friday, starting in Northern MN, particularly the Duluth area, with potential assignments in other states. Monday mornings start at the Woodbury office to collect the company vehicle before heading to job sites. Projects are located within the greater Twin Cities area, approximately 60-90 minutes from the office. Candidates open to future travel opportunities with per diem and accommodation benefits are preferred. The technician will work closely with another team member, with no layoffs during winter. Work is canceled if temperatures drop to -10 or colder.
