Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Protein Scientist to join our dynamic research team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing protein quantification, protein characterization, protein identification, and related sample preparation. This role is crucial for advancing our research and development projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform ELISA for protein quantification including automated and semi-automated techniques.
- Execute western WES assays for protein identification and semi-quantification.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and document findings in data systems.
- Prepare samples for immunoassay needs.
- Participate in shared lab duties and maintain lab equipment.
- Perform SDS-PAGE and gel imaging for protein characterization.
- Conduct protease digestion and time course experiment analysis.
- Prepare samples for mass spectrometry.
- Express proteins in various systems, such as bacterial, yeast, and insect cells.
- Conduct protein purification using various chromatography techniques.
- Perform protein activity assays, including enzyme assays and protein binding assays.
Essential Skills
- Masters degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field, or a Bachelors degree with relevant experience.
- Expertise in ELISA and western techniques.
- Experience with LIMS and liquid handlers.
- Experience with protein expression and purification techniques.
- Familiarity with mass spectrometry methodology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and best practices.

Work Environment
This position involves daily collaboration with teammates, regular lab meetings, data reviews, and project updates. The role is most often part of the Protein Analytics team, which includes 10 people in the lab, with occasional cross-functional support on the Protein Science team of 45 people. The environment is research-driven and data-focused, often fast-paced. The role is hands-on, requiring 70-90% of the time to be spent on bench work, running assays, prepping samples, and analyzing gels. Personal protective equipment such as gloves and goggles is required. The working conditions include a wet lab environment, with lifting requirements of up to 25 lbs, and handling of chemicals such as bacterial, yeast, insect cell antibodies, and cleaning materials.
