We are seeking a highly motivated Distribution Engineer with a keen interest in developing work packages for overhead, underground, URD, make-ready, and street light projects. The role requires a strong understanding of customer GIS and WMS systems such as GE Smallworld and Bentley Expert Designer. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in both field and office settings, as some fieldwork is necessary. Selected candidates will be trained in customer engineering and construction standards, gaining experience in coordinating utilities, developing design packages for complex cable/conduit projects, and designing medium voltage switchgear and distribution systems.
Responsibilities- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
- Comply with safety requirements and design and quality expectations.
- Travel to sites for inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
- Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading and voltage drop.
- Develop permitting documents for different jurisdictions.
- Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply mitigation using engineering principles.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, utility design, power distribution, distribution design, electrical design, and power delivery.
- Experience with distribution design tools like BOUD, SOCKET, or similar.
- Proficiency in CAD tools, MicroStation, and GIS.
- Experience with NESC, design standards, SPIDA-CALC, and pole foreman.
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for job-related travel.
- Willingness to work in both field and office environments.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Positive attitude and professional dress and demeanor.
The role involves working in both field and office environments. Candidates should be comfortable occasionally working outdoors. The work requires using various technologies and equipment, including AutoCAD, GIS, and CAD tools. Professional dress and demeanor are expected in the office setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
