Job Description
Join a leader in pet food palatability, focusing on enhancing the flavor and performance of pet food for manufacturers and their customers. As an Animal Care Technician, you will work closely with both cats and dogs, ensuring their wellbeing without the need to interact with customers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain kennels and facility areas, ensuring they are organized, sanitized, and free of odors.
- Feed cats and dogs on a set schedule and ensure they have access to clean water.
- Engage with animals using provided pet toys to play and socialize.
- Bathe and groom animals, preparing pet food for their scheduled feedings.
- Weigh leftover food and dispose of it accordingly.
- Document and update information on dogs and cats regularly.
- Maintain a supportive and collaborative environment.
- Provide exceptional care to the animals.
Essential Skills
- Experience in animal research, handling, and science.
- Ability to work around large groups of animals is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with jobs that require standing and cleaning duties.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma is required.
- 2 years of demonstrated work experience in a physical or fast-paced environment such as a restaurant, production, cleaning, or retail.
- 6 months or more of animal care experience is required; 1 year is preferred.
- Experience can be in a professional setting, volunteer work, personal business (pet sitting, grooming, dog walking), or farm experience.
Work Environment
This position supports the Palatability Assessment Resource Center (PARC), administering taste trials with animals. The facility is advanced with high expectations for productivity. The role requires exposure to varying temperatures as you will work indoors and outdoors. Expect a team-oriented environment with 19+ care technicians and 4-5 vet tech staff. The schedule includes a two-week rotation from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with alternating weekends and holidays. The facility remains open during inclement weather, with voluntary extended shifts offered.
