Job Title: Technician
Job Description
The Technician performs preventative and basic maintenance on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment, using computerized diagnostic tools to identify and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. This role combines hands-on repair work, scheduled maintenance, and equipment documentation, with occasional support in the yard when maintenance tasks are up to date.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and routine maintenance on company trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using computerized tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Repair identified issues efficiently and safely, ensuring equipment returns to service in reliable working condition.
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting parts and systems.
- Disassemble and reassemble major components such as engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs of equipment condition, maintenance performed, and repairs completed.
- Assist in the yard with general support tasks when maintenance and repair work is caught up.
- Collaborate with team members and leadership to prioritize work orders and maintain equipment uptime.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience as a mechanic working with trailers, large trucks, heavy equipment, or diesel engines.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using computerized diagnostic tools.
- Experience disassembling and reassembling major components such as engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of equipment condition and work performed.
- Willingness and physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety while working with heavy equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Automotive technician or mechanical experience.
- Experience working on diesel engines and heavy equipment is highly beneficial.
- Willingness to obtain a TWIC card; the company will cover the cost if needed.

Work Environment
This role involves primarily outdoor work, so you will work in all weather conditions and elements. You will also work in a truck bay as needed to assist with repairs on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. The environment is hands-on and physically active, with regular use of tools, equipment, and computerized diagnostic technology. Dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and a maintenance shop setting, with a focus on safety and practicality.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Billings, MT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
