Job Title: Land Survey Crew Chief

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Land Surveyor/Crew Chief to lead a dedicated survey crew on various projects throughout the Southeast region. This role is based out of our Apex office. The position involves working independently and leading a small team, typically consisting of two individuals. The focus of this role is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, accurate survey data, while maintaining safety standards and meeting project schedules and budgets.



Responsibilities

  • Locate, review, and research job sites to identify landmarks, physical objects, and land changes affecting the survey.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of the survey crew, evaluating priorities and organizing tasks.
  • Ensure the accuracy and regulatory compliance of collected data, including angles and distances.
  • Coordinate survey findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Research and review previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and other records for survey data.
  • Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches detailing work performed.
  • Complete daily logs, expense reports, and safety forms, ensuring all crew members adhere to safety procedures.
  • Consult with computer operators and review final survey work production.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and use of survey instruments and equipment.


Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in survey field operations with at least 2 years as an Instrument Operator.
  • Proficiency with survey equipment such as total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
  • Familiarity with survey terms and the operation of survey tools for measuring, sighting, and leveling.

  • Good technical skills with a process-oriented mindset.
  • Behavioral traits include being steady, helpful, analytical, and a problem solver.
  • Likes working alone when necessary, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, precise, and structured.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Willingness for some overnight travel.


Work Environment

The position is based in Apex, NC, with the majority of time spent in the field. Travel within the region (NC, SC, VA) is expected, with possible overnight stays. The primary workload is within a daily commute, but travel up to 60% is anticipated. Compensation is provided for travel outside the daily commute.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Apex, North Carolina.
