Controls Engineer

About the Role

As a Controls Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of smart manufacturing. You’ll design, implement, and support cutting‑edge projects that boost capability, throughput, yields, and overall operational excellence. Leveraging modern IoT solutions, data‑driven insights, and Lean methodologies, you will become a key driver of continuous improvement and advanced automation.

You’ll collaborate across engineering, production, and supplier teams—leading technical initiatives, solving complex problems, and ensuring production systems operate at peak performance. What You’ll Do

Lead Automation & Improvement Initiatives

  • Design and implement manufacturing projects that enhance efficiency, capacity, and machine capability.
  • Deploy IoT‑based monitoring tools and smart data‑collection systems to support real‑time decision‑making.

Be the Technical Backbone

  • Provide expert-level technical support, coaching, and guidance to internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation, cost estimates, project reports, and training materials.

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Monitor and analyze production KPIs such as uptime, scrap, yields, defect rates, and machine performance.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis initiatives and communicate actionable findings to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
  • Support asset management strategies, operational audits, predictive maintenance programs, and scrap reduction projects.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced PLC programming and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Strong exp in IoT integration for real‑time data capture and analytics.
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Lean tools (Kaizen, 5S, VSM) and continuous improvement principles.
  • Skilled in leading RCA investigations and presenting insights.
  • Proficient in data analysis for manufacturing optimization.
  • Experience creating high-quality technical documentation and training resources.
  • Solid understanding of EHS guidelines, LOTO procedures, and machine safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • (Associate degree with equivalent experience also considered).
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing with a strong focus on equipment programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency with MRP systems and predictive maintenance tools.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
