Job Title: Mechanical Engineer


Job Description

This role involves designing various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units. The engineer will oversee, direct, and perform engineering work associated with the design of these systems, manage and coordinate project work of associates, and create written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids. They will specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, and other components to meet contract requirements and industry standards.


Responsibilities

  • Design auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units.
  • Oversee, direct, and perform engineering work associated with these systems.
  • Manage and coordinate project work of associates.
  • Create written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids.
  • Specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, and instrumentation to meet contract requirements and industry standards.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering and system design.
  • Experience in instrumentation, piping, and mechanical components/systems design.
  • Strong skills in 3D modeling, primarily using NX software and AutoCAD.
  • Project management skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of 3D modeling experience with proficiency in AutoCAD; NX proficiency is preferred.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a hybrid schedule with three days in the office. This role offers a long-term opportunity with the chance to cross-train with the turbine/generator side of the business and work under a Professional Engineer (PE) with continuous education courses available if pursuing a PE is desired. The team consists of 20 engineers supporting across the Mechanical Engineering group, focusing on turbines, generators, and power systems. The role is within the energy industry for hydropower units, associated with dams and government work.
