Job Description

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Refrigeration Engineer based in Charlotte, NC. Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and documentation of refrigeration systems under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Support the development of design approaches for ammonia, CO₂, and synthetic refrigeration systems, including temperature and humidity control strategies.
  • Participate in system evaluations for condition, capacity, and efficiency, contributing to reports and recommendations.
  • Help generate layouts, sizing, and equipment selections for primary and secondary refrigeration systems such as chilled water, glycol, and brine.
  • Use AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM tools to draft refrigeration and process cooling designs.
  • Assist in preparing design criteria and bid packages for subcontractor pricing.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and perform site visits.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to gain exposure to project coordination and communication.
  • Contribute to the updating of engineering standards and participate in team knowledge sharing.
  • Begin involvement in industry organizations such as IIAR, RETA, and ASHRAE to support professional development.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • 3+ years of experience in refrigeration design, especially in food and beverage processing facilities and cold storage.
  • Basic understanding of discipline-specific codes and standards such as IMC, IIAR, ASHRAE, and NFPA.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit; willingness to learn BIM workflows and load calculation tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and demonstrate professional integrity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong interest in refrigeration systems and building mechanical design.
  • Eager to grow professionally and contribute to multidisciplinary coordination efforts.
  • Proficient Revit skills.
  • Involvement or willingness to engage in industry organizations such as IIAR, RETA, and ASHRAE.
Work Environment

The position is based in a growing Charlotte office with a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. The engineer will be instrumental in helping the MEP sector grow, with opportunities for professional growth within a large international engineering, design, and construction firm.


Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.
