Title: Survey Crew Chief

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, detail‑oriented Survey Crew Chief to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have strong field experience, excellent technical skills, and the ability to lead day‑to‑day survey operations on site. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate field data collection, efficient workflow, and high‑quality deliverables for a variety of projects.

As a Crew Chief, you will work directly in the field, operating surveying equipment, directing crew members, and coordinating with project managers to support successful project execution.


Responsibilities

  • Lead field survey crews on a variety of project types, ensuring accurate and efficient data collection.
  • Operate and maintain surveying instruments such as robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and other field tools.
  • Interpret project plans, boundary documents, and construction drawings to guide field work.
  • Ensure all field notes, measurements, and documentation are accurate, complete, and properly recorded.
  • Communicate project updates, challenges, and progress to project managers and office staff.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following company and site‑specific safety requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience in land surveying fieldwork.
  • Proficiency with modern survey equipment (GPS/GNSS, total stations, levels, data collectors, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to guide and support crew members effectively in the field.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant certification or degree in surveying or related field preferred (but not required with strong experience).
  • Familiarity with survey software and data collection platforms.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and manage physical fieldwork demands.
  • Strong time‑management skills and ability to meet project deadlines.

Work Environment

The Survey Crew Chief role is primarily field-based, supporting a wide range of project types. Candidates should expect a mix of outdoor fieldwork and occasional office collaboration for data review or project coordination. This position offers hands-on work, autonomy, and the opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact surveying projects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15100.00 - $15100.00/yr.
