Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team and contribute to our patient care processes. This role involves assisting in patient intake, collecting vital signs and medical history, and supporting physicians in maintaining preventive health measures. You will be responsible for preparing exam rooms, providing patient instructions, and ensuring the efficient flow of clinic operations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct the rooming and intake process, collecting data including vital signs, height, weight, and patient’s reason for visit.
- Gather patient and family data, including medical and social history.
- Review patient’s current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
- Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
- Evaluate patient records to determine necessary routine health screenings.
- Ensure exam and procedure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
- Provide patients with after-visit instructions, follow-up procedures, and educational materials.
- Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms, including sterilizing instruments.
- Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Answer clinic telephone and assist with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- Precept new medical assistant hires and medical assistant externs.
- Train other medical assistants in clinic procedures.
- Assist the physician in maintaining preventive health measures for patients.
- Perform clinic-based quality or safety roles, such as maintaining immunization or medication registry.
- Manage clinic supply ordering.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Epic and internal medicine practices.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience in rooming patients and performing phlebotomy.
- Certified Medical Assistant certification from recognized organizations.
- Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is preferred.
- At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage positively with patients and families.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records.
Work Environment
Work within the North Carolina Heart and Vascular clinic, operating from 8am to 4:30pm. You will be part of a large health system, providing a collaborative and supportive environment.
