Job Title: Junior Electrical / Controls Engineer

Job Description

The Junior Electrical / Controls Engineer supports the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of industrial electrical and automation systems. This role works under the guidance of engineers to assist with control panel design, PLC programming, system testing, and equipment commissioning. The engineer will contribute to improving system reliability, supporting production operations, and ensuring electrical systems meet safety and code requirements. This position is well‑suited for early‑career engineers seeking hands‑on experience in manufacturing or industrial automation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and troubleshooting of control panel systems.
  • Support PLC programming and system testing.
  • Contribute to equipment commissioning and ensure systems meet safety standards.
  • Improve system reliability and support production operations.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of AC/DC circuits, control voltage, and industrial power distribution.
  • Troubleshoot sensors, VFDs, and control panels.
  • Use AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical for schematics and panel drawings.
  • Assist with startup, testing, and validation of control systems.
  • Identify and resolve basic electrical or logic issues under supervision.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Understanding of AC/DC circuits, control voltage, and industrial power distribution.
  • Exposure to PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with HMI/SCADA concepts.
  • Basic troubleshooting of sensors, VFDs, and control panels.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Basic use of PLC software (Studio 5000, TIA Portal, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for documentation and testing results.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Internship, co‑op, or 0–3 years of relevant industrial or manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, or industrial safety standards.
  • Willingness to be on the plant floor and support commissioning activities.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow into a mid‑level controls or electrical engineering role.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a manufacturing or industrial facility with time split between desk and plant floor. The role involves collaboration with engineering, maintenance, and production teams. Standard business hours apply, with occasional overtime during startups or commissioning. Emphasis is placed on safety, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wilkesboro, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
