Remote Nuclear Systems Engineer
Job Description
The Systems Engineer will be a key technical member of the Fleet System Engineering team, responsible for interfacing with multiple engineering disciplines, business managers, project managers, and customers. This role involves addressing complex technical issues in a dynamic project environment, focusing on the technical design, evaluation, and delivery of major and complex assignments supporting fleet operating Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs).
Responsibilities
- Perform Extended Power Upgrade (EPU) evaluations for various Nuclear Steam Supply Systems (NSSS).
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to support general system evaluations and address emergent requests.
- Lead and conduct calculations, design analyses, evaluations, and verifications for various BWR safety and non-safety system functions.
- Apply engineering knowledge and practical experience to analyze, investigate, and solve complex design problems and application issues.
- Perform evaluations from the current state to the EPU state for nuclear steam supply systems.
- Produce comprehensive reports following evaluation completion.
- Interface heavily with other engineering teams to perform necessary analyses and meet criteria.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- 5-10 years of nuclear systems experience, with a focus on BWR (Boiling Water Reactors).
- Experience with BWR NSSS systems.
- In-depth knowledge of BWR reactor major NSSS systems such as CRD, Recirculation, ECCS, RWCU, SLC, Main Steam – MSIVs and SRVs, HPCI, RCIC, HPCS.
- Familiarity with setpoint calculation standards and regulations such as ISA 67.04.01 and RG 1.105.
- Proven technical skills within a project management environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including customer interface experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including experience as a lead or lead contributor on major projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial nuclear power plant systems.
- Professional Engineering License or Advanced Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Knowledge of BWR nuclear plant systems and analyses techniques, commercial plant outages, and nuclear industry practices.
- Experience with design, evaluation, and operation of nuclear power plant components, primarily BWRs.
Work Environment
This is a fully remote work environment with the team headquartered in Wilmington and some presence in San Jose. Engineering colleagues are spread across the US in a remote setting.
