Job Title: Utility Superintendent
Job Description
The Utility Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of utility construction projects in Wilmington, NC. This role ensures efficient use of personnel and equipment, adherence to safety and quality standards, and timely project completion while reporting directly to an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Ensure new team members are properly introduced to company policies, safety protocols, and job expectations.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations of assigned staff.
- Review and verify the accuracy of daily reports and records.
- Maintain a detailed daily log of key conversations and events for future reference.
- Supervise subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality expectations, and company procedures.
- Guide team members on proper equipment use, cost control, productivity improvement, and adherence to company policies.
- Continuously assess project costs, schedules, equipment needs, training, safety, and security, and report findings or recommendations to the Division or Project Manager.
- Enforce compliance with all company policies, employment laws, and regulatory requirements.
- Foster positive relationships with the public, engineers, inspectors, and clients to support project success and uphold the company’s reputation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division or Project Manager.
- Utilize smart devices and computers proficiently.
- Stay informed about and comply with all relevant state and federal regulations related to storm drain, water, force main, and gravity sewer installation.
- Conduct random audits to ensure tools, equipment, materials, and PPE are available and in proper working condition.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
Essential Skills
- 5–10 years of experience in storm drain, water, force main, and gravity sewer installation.
- Familiarity with dewatering and sewer bypass operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with NCDOT, federal agencies, or local utility owners is a plus.
- Experience on military installations or port-access projects is advantageous.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
