Job Description

The Phlebotomist II plays a crucial role in assisting with various duties related to specimen collection and processing, while providing high-quality care to patients and supporting the healthcare team.



Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
  • Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment.
  • Update patient information accurately.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow physicians' orders precisely.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.


Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Specimen processing
  • Experience in blood draws and specimen collection
  • Proficiency in data entry
  • Understanding of laboratory protocols


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of Phlebotomy experience
  • Experience working in an OBGYN office preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite


Work Environment

This role involves floating between OBGYN facilities in West Omaha, specifically at locations on N 162nd Ave and W Center Rd. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with no weekends or holidays. Attire includes solid-colored scrub tops with no restrictions on the bottoms, and lab coats are provided. Employees have the opportunity to pursue an online Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lincoln, Nebraska.
