Job Description
Join a dynamic and laid-back team, assisting with the day-to-day operations of accounting and finance functions. This role provides an opportunity for growth into a Sr. Accountant position, offering flexibility to work remotely when needed, and fosters a culture of curiosity and initiative.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Financial Controller with daily operations of accounting and finance functions.
- Support the month-end and year-end GL close process, including financial statement preparation and review.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliation processes.
- Monitor and record transactions affecting daily position and inventory balances.
- Conduct General Ledger (GL) maintenance, including reviewing GL account mapping and adding new accounts as necessary.
- Manage customer credit and lien administration, including new customer setup, credit limit assessment, monitoring aged receivables, and periodic customer reviews.
- Prepare and complete year-end and regulatory audits as needed.
- Monitor regulatory and tax filing requirements, including grain taxes and tonnage reports.
- Assist with settlements and work within approved budget; identify and recommend cost-saving measures.
- Identify control or procedural weaknesses and recommend improvements.
- Prepare ad-hoc reporting and participate in special projects on an as-needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Experience with month-end close processes, not just preparation.
- Proficiency in General Ledger management.
- Experience in reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables.
- Ability to file sales tax or property tax returns.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Sage ERP systems.
- Grain industry experience.
- Detail-oriented approach.
- Ability to implement feedback effectively.
- Good interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively.
- Initiative and ownership of tasks, proactive in seeking additional responsibilities.
Work Environment
The position is 100% onsite, with flexibility for remote work as needed. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The office has 45 people, and the team consists of three members. The dress code is business casual, allowing jeans and a nice shirt. The culture is laid-back yet fun, with monthly catered lunches, food trucks, and celebratory events.
