Job Title: Controls Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a Controls Technician to join our team, responsible for starting up, commissioning, and re-commissioning customer systems utilizing DDC technology. The role involves problem-solving, collaborating with subcontractors and other trades, and delivering turnkey project delivery on small projects.
Responsibilities
- Start up, commission, and re-commission customer systems using DDC technology.
- Troubleshoot and provide solutions to mid-level systems problems.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper system operation.
- Deliver turnkey project delivery on small projects, typically involving 80 or fewer budgeted hours.
- Manage unitary systems including VAV, FPB, and FCU, as well as small AHUs and basic CW/HW systems.
- Complete all required commissioning documentation and maintain accurate As-Built drawing packages.
- Complete paperwork on time, including time sheets, expense reports, and work orders.
- Oversee total system operation from controllers to sensors, load software, and set up trends, alarms, and reports.
- Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment, such as multi-meters and network terminals.
- Perform mid-level static commissioning of software programming.
- Provide site-specific training for owners/operators on the total system.
- Set up operator workstations with all associated software.
- Perform job database backups as advised.
- Assist with project turnover to the Service Department.
- Communicate with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
- Track and record job progress and keep the Project Manager informed.
- Review customer systems and suggest areas of improvement or scope issues.
- Maintain a daily log of pertinent job-related activities.
- Adhere to safety standards with a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in building HVAC with a focus on building automation controls.
- Field experience in installation and operation of Building Controls.
- Ability to navigate third-party control systems and integrations.
- Experience with Building Automation software, including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, and LogicBuilder.
- Understanding of mechanical equipment operation and control sequences.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with multiple disciplines and handling simultaneous challenges.
- Proficiency in computer, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Skills in troubleshooting, building automation, and field service.
- Familiarity with tcp/ip, electronics, and software like Siemens, Trane, and Honeywell.
Work Environment
This position covers the NJ territory, with candidates responsible for driving their own vehicles. Reimbursement is provided for daily expenses like tolls and mileage up to 56 miles per day. Candidates do not need to report to the office daily and can go directly to job sites. Physical requirements include climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 lbs. Typical working hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with no on-call shifts in the install group. There are growth opportunities within software engineering and design teams, and after transitioning to a full-time employee, benefits include a company car, EZ pass, and company credit card.
