Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Analytical Chemist to support our specialized and technical testing environment. This role is critical due to the pending retirement of two experienced chemists whose expertise is pivotal to our operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with complex ingredient matrices, requiring a proactive and independent professional capable of maintaining high testing quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Handle complex ingredient matrices, diagnosing and interpreting interferences effectively.
  • Maintain the lab's throughput without disruption, ensuring the quality of testing determines product shipment.
  • Replace the deep institutional knowledge held by retiring chemists.
  • Implement protocols for SOPs, GMP, and utilize HPLC, ICP-MS.
  • Oversee lab operations while performing experiments.
  • Ensure ingredient intake and qualifications meet required standards, including passing heavy metals and parameter checks.
  • Conduct backup testing of finished products, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Teach and train to transfer institutional knowledge effectively.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years in R&D, specifically in the nutraceutical field.
  • Expertise in 21 CFR 111 & 211 regulations.
  • Hands-on experience in analytical chemistry and complex, multi-ingredient formulations.
  • Proficiency in HPLC, ICP-MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, and disintegration testing techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and solve problems effectively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience managing and overseeing lab operations.
  • Capability to step in quickly and maintain ongoing operations without disruption.
  • Proven track record in problem-solving beyond following prewritten test scripts.

Work Environment

The work environment is specialized and technical, focusing on R&D and quality control in a niche industry. The laboratory handles over 1,000 ingredients and involves high-interference testing, requiring advanced skills and hands-on experience. The team consists of 6 lab members within a larger organization of 80 people. The role involves working with dry forms such as tablets, capsules, and powders. The organization values expertise and offers competitive compensation for niche manufacturing and development roles.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cranbury, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $55.00/hr.
