Job Title: Packaging Engineer
Job Description
As a Packaging Engineer, you will design and develop packaging for new and existing products, ensuring functionality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulations. You will conduct packaging testing and validation to ensure durability, safety, and performance during transportation and storage. Collaboration with suppliers and internal teams will be essential to source materials and optimize packaging processes. You will support sustainability initiatives by identifying and implementing eco-friendly packaging alternatives. Additionally, you will maintain documentation and specifications for all packaging components and troubleshoot packaging issues, providing technical support to manufacturing and quality teams. Staying current with industry trends, materials, and technologies is also a key part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop packaging for new and existing products.
- Ensure functionality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulations.
- Conduct packaging testing and validation for durability, safety, and performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams for material sourcing and process optimization.
- Support sustainability initiatives by implementing eco-friendly packaging alternatives.
- Maintain documentation and specifications for packaging components.
- Troubleshoot packaging issues and provide technical support to teams.
- Stay updated with industry trends, materials, and technologies.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in packaging design and development, preferably in the food industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software and packaging design tools.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with carbons and corrugated packaging is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the food industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of flexible films, cartons, and corrugated cardboard.
Work Environment
This position is based at the East Hanover site, which employs roughly 400 people. Most employees work a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days onsite per week. Candidates are preferred to come onsite 1 day per week, but fully remote candidates may be considered if they are the right fit. The company offers free lunch for all employees and consultants from Tuesday to Thursday.
