Job Title: Handyman Porter

Job Description

The Handyman/Porter plays a crucial role in supporting daily operations by ensuring a clean, safe, and functional industrial environment. This role requires a combination of general maintenance, facility support, and hands-on assistance throughout the site. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting with large machinery, metal processing equipment, and high traffic production areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine repairs on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical tasks.
  • Inspect facility areas regularly to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards.
  • Assist with the upkeep of industrial workspaces, storage areas, and common areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of production floors, walkways, break rooms, restrooms, and office spaces.
  • Remove debris, scrap metal, and waste materials following site protocols.
  • Support material handling tasks such as moving tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with loading/unloading deliveries and organizing inventory.
  • Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental guidelines.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents immediately.
  • Support emergency cleanup or spill response activities as needed.
  • Provide support to maintenance technicians and production teams during shutdowns, repairs, or special projects.
  • Set up work areas, tools, and equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal and groundskeeping.

Essential Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues.
  • General plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and repair skills.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Deep respect for safety protocols in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of lifting 50+ lbs and able to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Industrial experience is a plus.
  • Good communication and computer skills are a plus.
  • Experience with carts, pallet jacks, or forklifts, or willingness to learn.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Florham Park, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
