Job Description
The Patient Service Representative is responsible for providing a welcoming and efficient experience for patients, customers, and families both in person and over the phone. This role involves ensuring timely patient arrivals, updating schedules as needed, and maintaining a clean and organized reception area. The coordinator also assists with questionnaires, manages patient co-pays, resolves customer issues, and schedules appointments. A strong understanding of insurance and proficiency in appointment scheduling are essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients, customers, and families courteously and promptly.
- Ensure patient arrival according to schedule and update arrival times as necessary.
- Understand and manage insurance-related tasks.
- Collect patient co-pays and outstanding balances.
- Assist patients with questionnaires depending on the procedure.
- Resolve customer issues by mobilizing necessary resources.
- Schedule and reschedule all exams efficiently.
- Keep the reception and patient waiting areas clear of clutter and stocked with supplies.
- Maintain consistent productivity levels and organize tasks efficiently.
- Communicate proactively with provider offices, technologists, and leadership.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proficiency in customer service.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with appointment scheduling.
- Tech-savvy, familiarity with Athena and medical insurance verification.

Work Environment
The position is within the Orthopedic department and involves working alongside a team of three Patient Service Representatives. The work schedule is Monday from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with rotating Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The environment is supportive, with opportunities to build long-term relationships with patients as visits are typically quarterly or biannual. The role offers a great schedule and supportive staff and providers.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Florham Park, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.50 - $22.00/hr.
