Job Title: Fire Technician (Programmer)
Job Description
This position involves the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, programming and repair of fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and suppression systems. The role ensures all fire safety equipment complies with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. The technician will work independently and as part of a team to complete service calls, troubleshoot system issues, and provide customer support. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, maintain, program, and repair fire alarm systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and functionality tests on all fire protection systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes.
- Identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions and provide accurate solutions in a timely manner.
- Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair work, including deficiency reports and service records.
- Coordinate with the office to schedule inspections, provide updates, and explain findings.
- Maintain proper inventory of parts, tools, and equipment for each job.
- Respond to emergency service calls and provide on-site corrective action when needed.
- Ensure all work complies with company policies, safety protocols, and applicable regulations.
- Stay updated on industry standards, new technology, and product updates through training and certifications.
- Collaborate with other technicians, electricians, and contractors as needed on large-scale installations or retrofits.
Essential Skills
- Experience with low-voltage electronic installation, including bending pipe.
- Proficiency in fire alarm systems troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and schematic reading.
- Experience with hand tools and electronics related to fire protection systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in programming and installation of fire protection systems.
- Certification in fire alarm systems or related fields is a plus.
- Ability to stay updated with industry standards and new technologies.
Work Environment
The work is performed 100% onsite at customer locations. Technicians will work both independently and as part of a team to complete service calls. This role requires traveling in your own vehicle to customer sites and the office to retrieve equipment and materials. The work is primarily located throughout New Jersey, with some tasks in the Tri-State area. Eligible for tolls, gas, and other work-related expenses for jobs outside New Jersey.
