Job Description
The 3D Printing Technician will join the Wound Closure & Healing Research & Development team. This role involves providing prototype and fixture fabrication for New Product Development and Life Cycle Management. The Technician will work closely with engineers and scientists to design and manufacture three-dimensional representations of R&D concepts, ensuring all activities comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multiple functional groups including R&D, Product Management, Quality, Marketing & Sales.
- Interpret blueprints for fabrication or prototypes.
- Conduct or manage prototyping and fixture fabrication within larger R&D activities.
- Design and develop fixturing and tooling from verbal directions or drawings.
- Translate general concepts and ideas into working prototypes.
- Set up and maintain MakerSpace & 3D Printing equipment.
- Understand the setup of CNC milling machines, with knowledge of CNC Lathes being a plus.
- Work independently on setups, creating own setups and fixtures.
- Ensure timely completion of activities while complying with industry standards.
- Follow company guidelines related to Health, Safety, and Environmental practices.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Wear appropriate safety gear and follow safety practices.
- Write SOPs and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with outside vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Contribute inventions, new designs, and processes to solve technical problems based on customer needs.
- Provide instruction to technical employees, especially contractors and interns.
- Experience setting up and running manual milling machines and lathes.
- Knowledge and experience in prototyping and fixture fabrication techniques.
- Mechanical and electrical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Familiarization with material and process specifications.
- Good interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office Software.
- Typically requires 5–7 years of experience as a machinist or toolmaker; college degree or trade school degree optional.
- Experience in machining (CNC or manual) required.
- Experience managing a department or facility like a MakerSpace is a bonus.
- Familiarity with 3D printing is a bonus.
- Experience with 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks and computer-aided machining (CAM) software like Mastercam is a plus.
- Knowledge of device product development and prototyping materials, especially in medical devices, is a bonus.
The role is onsite in the 3D Printing Lab, operating Monday through Friday. The environment requires adherence to safety protocols, including wearing safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate clothing, and footwear.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Somerville, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.08/hr.
